Alzheimer’s, The Race To The Cure
Although, Alzheimer’s been around for centuries, it’s become an epidemic because people live longer. Alzheimer’s develops slowly, thus, the longer people live the more they fall prey to the disease. Estimates are that 1 per cent of the population has Alzheimer’s at age 65, whereas, 20 per cent have it at age 80.
In today’s world, approximately 24 million people have Alzheimer’s disease. It will double in twenty years, then, in twenty years double again. Therefore, in forty years, approximately 100 million people will suffer from the disease. Unfortunately, the cost to treat people will bankrupt health care organizations, and devastate economies around the world.
